Editorial Policy

Soccer Orator is a small editorial team. We hold ourselves to a clear and public set of standards because betting content is YMYL (“Your Money or Your Life”) — it can have real financial consequences for our readers. This page documents our standards. If we ever fall short of them, please tell us.

Our principles

  1. Honesty over excitement. We don’t promise wins. We don’t promise certainty. We tell you what we think and why we think it, with the underlying data, and then let you decide.
  2. Identifiable authorship. Every article is published under a real, named human analyst. No “admin” bylines. No anonymous tipsters. No AI-only content presented as human.
  3. Transparent track record. Every published tip is logged on our Track Record page, win or lose. We never delete or quietly retract a losing tip.
  4. Disclosed affiliations. We disclose every commercial relationship that could affect our editorial output. See our Affiliate Disclosure.
  5. Reader welfare first. No content is published if we believe it encourages reckless or harmful gambling behaviour, even if it would generate clicks or commissions.

Who writes for us

Our authors are required to:

  • Use their real legal name as their byline.
  • Maintain a public author profile on the Site with a verified photo, a current bio, and at least one external profile link (LinkedIn, X, an external publication).
  • Disclose to the editor any direct or indirect commercial relationship with a bookmaker, fantasy operator, club, or player agent.
  • Avoid betting on matches they are previewing for the Site.

Pseudonymous content is not permitted on Soccer Orator.

How a match preview is produced

Each match preview follows this checklist:

  1. Fixture confirmation — kick-off date, time (with time-zone), competition, venue, referee where known.
  2. Form check — last five matches in the same competition, last five matches across all competitions, home/away splits.
  3. Head-to-head review — last five direct meetings, scorelines, venues.
  4. Squad audit — confirmed injuries, suspensions, illnesses, international call-up returns, and rotation expectations. Source: official club channels and reputable media.
  5. Tactical preview — likely formations, recent tactical patterns, key matchups.
  6. Statistical layer — relevant xG, conversion rate, defensive metrics, set-piece data, and home/away splits drawn from public sources (FBref, Understat, FotMob, official league sites).
  7. Market scan — odds compared across at least three regulated bookmakers at the time of writing.
  8. Value assessment — comparison of our model’s implied probability to the market’s implied probability, identifying any value gap.
  9. Tip selection — at most three tips per fixture, with stake recommendations and our reasoning.
  10. Review — every preview is reviewed by a second pair of eyes before publication where possible.

We will not publish a tip we don’t personally find defensible.

Sourcing

We source data from:

  • Official league and club websites.
  • FBref, Understat, FotMob, Sofascore, and Opta for advanced statistics.
  • Reputable football journalism outlets (BBC Sport, ESPN, The Athletic, kicker, Marca, Gazzetta dello Sport).
  • Direct quotes from press conferences via official channels.

We attribute claims that are not common knowledge. We do not republish copyrighted text. We do not use AI to fabricate quotes.

AI use

We use AI tools as research assistants for tasks like data summarisation, draft outlining, and proofreading. We do not:

  • Publish AI-generated text without human review and editing.
  • Use AI to fabricate analyst opinions, quotes, or fictional named experts.
  • Present AI-generated tips as human predictions.

Where AI has materially contributed to a piece, we will say so.

Affiliate links and sponsored content

  • Affiliate links are tagged with rel="sponsored" or rel="nofollow".
  • Sponsored articles are clearly labelled “Sponsored” or “Advertisement” at the top of the page, in the title where required, and again in the article body.
  • No bookmaker may dictate the conclusions of a preview or tip in exchange for a commercial placement. If asked, we decline.
  • Our commercial team and editorial team operate independently.

For full detail, see our Affiliate Disclosure.

Corrections

We will make mistakes. When we do, we correct them transparently:

  • Minor typo / formatting: corrected silently.
  • Factual error in body text: corrected in place, with an editor’s note added at the bottom of the article describing what was changed and when.
  • Material error in a published tip (wrong fixture, wrong odds, wrong market): a strikethrough is applied to the original wording, the corrected wording follows, and an editor’s note is added at the top of the article. We do not retroactively change a losing tip into a winning one.
  • Track record adjustment: if a tip was logged incorrectly, the entry is amended with a visible “corrected on [date]” note. Aggregated stats are recalculated.

To report an error, email corrections@soccerorator.com. We aim to respond within two business days.

Right to reply

If you are a person or organisation discussed on the Site and you believe an article contains an inaccuracy, contact admin@soccerorator.com with the specific claim and supporting evidence. We will review promptly.

Conflicts of interest

We will disclose, in any article where it is relevant:

  • Any financial relationship between an author and a club, player, agent, or bookmaker discussed.
  • Any prior work for a competing publication that touches on the article’s subject.

Authors with a personal stake in a match (a bet placed, a relative on the pitch, a contract with a club) must recuse themselves from previewing or analysing that match.

Comments and community

We moderate comments. We will remove:

  • Spam, advertising, or unsolicited promotion of bookmakers.
  • Hate speech, harassment, or threats.
  • Personal attacks on authors or other commenters.
  • Off-topic content unrelated to the article.

Constructive disagreement is welcome and encouraged.
